Directories and Metadata
- An LDAP/X.500 Roadmap & FAQ;
  RFCs and other Documents on LDAP, X.500, and User Directories.
  In response to the need for host name to host address directories and e-mail directories, the internet community created the X.500 directory standard. The original directory access protocol associated with this standard proved unecomonical, so it has been replaced with LDAP, the `Lightweight Directory Access Protocol'.
